Feature – Data Splitting

If it involves Data - we can help you

There are many times when we are given a large dataset, that contains many different categories of data.  Normally with a database, you would just use an SQL statement to select what you want.  But what if that data came to you in a CSV, Excel, XML, or other formats that you have imported into InSights?  You cannot use a SQL statement to select you data – so InSights provides the ability to spilt your data with no coding!

Table & Field Selection

When you choose to split a in-memory table, the above screen is displayed.  Here you can choose what table you want to split – and then what fields you want to use to select the values you want to split on.  The List of field to Include in the new tables allows you to choose the fields you want to have in the new tables generated by the splitting process.  If you do not select any – then all fields will be included.

Select the Table you want to split, then click the Populate Fields button to set up the list boxes.  Then you an choose what fields to split on.  Once you have done that, you click the Analyze button at the bottom to bring up the Splitter Breakdown Selection and Confirmation screen.

Split Breakdown Selection and Confirmation

Once you have the splitter selection and confirmation screen up – you can see the various breakdowns and the count of records in each group.

On this screen you select the breakdowns you want.  In this case we have selected all the Albuquerque records – and this will create 8 separate in-memory tables with the record counts shown on the right of the grid.

When you have selected the records you want – click the Accept button to get the Confirmation prompt.

Perform the Split

Back on the main data table splitting screen – the Split button at the bottom is now enabled.  When you click that button – the actual split of the data table is performed and the multiple sub-tables are created.

When the process is complete the following confirmation prompt will be displayed.

Splitting Results

Once the splitting is performed – you will see the updated table list on the left hand side.  This now shows the 8 new tables – with names having a number  at the end…
