Feature – Grid Charting – Quick and Easy

If it involves Data - we can help you

Having data in a grid is great for when you need details.  But when you are dealing with a large number of records, sometimes you are not able to see the forest for the trees.  Charts and dashboards are a great way of seeing your data in a graphical way.

InSights has the ability to show you charting of the data in the grid in a very easy manner.  Simply click the Show Grid Chart button above the Results Grid – and you will see a new panel appear to the Right of the Grid itself.  In this panel you can select a numeric field for the Value dropdown, and then fields for Argument and Series drop downs.  At that point you can click the update button and see the results.

The charts can be customized in a number of ways – including setting label formats.

The Charts are created based on selected records in the grid.

Grid Charting - A Few Selected Records

The above grid shows what it might look like if you create a chart based on UnitPrice with an argument of Region.  You can see there are just under 30 rows selected in the grid – and the Chart area shows you what that looks like in a graphical manner.

Grid Charting - All Records Selected

The above chart shows the exact same chart settings but with all the records in the grid selected.  You can see difference in the number of bars in the chart and the totals.

As with all other charts in InSights Into Data, it is possible to change it to other formats such as pie charts, line charts, etc.  – as well as exporting it to a wide variety of file formats.
