The pivot grid feature of InSights Into Data is a joy to work with. You simply drag and drop fields from the list at the top to the three positions shown with the red arrows – and the program will arrange the data for you.
In the above example we have dragged the TA Rec No field (simple counter) to the upper left position (this is the value that will be summed) – and then drag the breakdowns you want to the left and upper positions (in this case we dragged Region to the left – and the Ship Via to the upper). You can see how the breakdowns appear almost immediately. To get the Charts at the bottom – simply highlight the cells you want to chart – and the pie charts appear right away. No other tool is this easy to use and make chartable pivot grids so quickly!
You can use the pivot grid to explore your data and see how various data elements correlate with each other. The data can be exported as is to a Excel compatible spreadsheet built into the InSights Into Data application.
You can change the charting options to bar charts and many others – as well as print and export the charts to a wide variety of file formats.
In this example screen shot – you can see we have added the Country next to the Region on the left hand side of the Pivot Grid. This creates a drill down effect allowing you to see the totals by both Region and Country.
At the bottom of the grid – we have changed the pie charts to bar charts in only 2 mouse clicks!!
There are a number of ways to launch the Pivot Grid – but the most common way is the Pivot Grid group in the Ribbon Bar at the top of the Grid. Here you can launch the Pivot Grid based on the data of the grid – with one mouse click!
The check box (Add Rec Counter) will simply add a new field to the data (ZZRecNo) – which will then contain a value of ‘1’ in each record. This is a easy way of Adding a counter for you to use in the Pivot Grid.
